Excursion of the smelter Albertus Center of Competence in Baddeckenstedt

Foundry technology students visited the Hüttenes-Albertus Center on July 12, where they gained valuable, hands-on insights into the foundry industry and its research methods.

On July 12, we had the privilege of visiting the Hüttenes-Albertus Center of Competence (HA CoC) in Baddeckenstedt with a group of students from the foundry technology lecture at the Institute of Metallurgy (IMET). This visit gave us fascinating insights into the testing and development of new products as well as into the practical demonstration of the behavior of binder systems, even after multiple process runs and reprocessing. HA is one of the world's leading chemical plants for the foundry industry and has a unique center of industrial research in the CoC. We were excited about the opportunity to familiarize our students with the working methods and current issues of this important company.

The excursion began with a warm welcome from the Hüttenes-Albertus team, who gave us an overview of the company and its role in foundry technology. We were then taken to the operational research and development area of HA CoC, where we had the chance to explore the state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories. The students were impressed with the extensive testing and development capabilities available to HA. During the tour, we were given detailed insights into the various processes and experiments that are conducted at HA CoC. Particularly exciting was the demonstration of the practical demonstration of the behavior of binder systems. Our students were impressed by the accuracy as well as real-world complexity with which the extensive tests were conducted to achieve optimal results for industrial applications. The extremely helpful experts from Hüttenes-Albertus were able to answer questions from our students in a detailed and understandable manner, even when the subject matter was highly complex. Through their commitment and passion for their work, the HA employees conveyed to the students the high potential of a future-oriented and strong foundry industry. Their expertise and experience were invaluable to us as they bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to Hüttenes Albertus for the invitation and the great guided tour by Mr. Kläs. This visit gave our students valuable insights into the world of foundry technology and showed them how important it is to work with leading companies like HA. Collaboration between industry and educational institutions is crucial to provide students with hands-on experience and prepare them for their future challenges. The visit to HA CoC will undoubtedly leave a long-lasting impression on our students. Not only have they broadened their knowledge of foundry technology, but they have also gained inspiration and motivation for their future careers.

In conclusion, we can say that the visit to the Hüttenes Albertus Center of Competence was an absolute highlight for us. We are excited about the knowledge gained and will use this experience to further improve our foundry technology programs and prepare our students for their careers in the best possible way.
